This sadly is the: World of managed healthcare. Many insurance companies will only pay for medication sessions with psychiatrists ; many health care facilities dictate that psychiatrists stick to the business of evaluations ; medications.15 minutes is standard for many. I am very blessed. I am able to see medication followups for up to 30 minutes ; I am also able to have a # of my own patients for talking therapy.

15 minute appts.: Dr. Fowler provided helpful info on the effects of managed care on psychiatry appointments. The 15-minute model is based on medication management only -- and i personally think it's too short for even that. If your goal is also psychotherapy, 15 minutes is even more woefully inadequate. Some support can be provided, but most of the time goes for checking side effects and writing prescriptions.
