Not much: Tough break. Slings and figure of 8 braces may help. Don't lie on that side. Sleeping more upright may help in the beginning. Expect pain to continue for 4-6 weeks, sometimes longer, with decreasing severity. One of the benefits of surgery is that pain is decreased because the bone fragments are no longer moving around. Of course, surgery is typically only recommended for certain fractures.
