Citanest: Citanest is a local anesthetic used to numb the tooth or area prior to dental treatment."plain" refers to it not having Epinephrine in it. Epinephrine is used to control bleeding in the area and makes the anesthetic last longer. We use "plain" when we only need local anesthesia for a short procedure or the patient is extremely sensitive to it's effect on heart rate.

Local anesthetic: Citanest is also known as prilocaine and is used as an injectable local anesthetic. It can come with vasoconstrictor, Epinephrine 1:200, 000 or plain which means no vasoconstrictor. It will typically last longer with a vasoconstrictor but in certain situations, it is preferable to avoid the epi. And use the plain.
