Depends: It depends upon what the dentist finds wrong. The possibilities include watching the tooth, apex surgery, retreating the root canal, or extraction.

Retreatment...: Retreatment of a previously root canal treated tooth should begin with a thorough evaluation to assess the prognosis and reason for failure. If your endodontist recommends retreatment, he or she will start by undoing the previous work, correcting the deficiency, and then completing the tooth. Most often this is done over multiple visits. Skillful retreatment can extend the life of your tooth.

Re treatment thought: If the original root canal was done by an endodontist, then possibly the work failed due to a crack in the tooth and not worth saving. If they use a ct image and find a missed canal, consider re treatment, otherwise consider extraction, bone graft ;subsequent dental implant placement for longer term success.

EvaluatioRetreatment: First, always go to a microscopical trained endodontist! they will first determine the cause for the failure, then retreat and correct problems assoc w the first endo.
