It can: Ground flax seed is a rich source of the essential fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ala), which is a biologic precursor to omega-3 fatty acids. But it can interfere with the absorption of some medications and supplements. Take oral agents one hour before -- or two hours after -- flaxseed to prevent decreased absorption.
