Sudden Infant Death: SIDS is sudden infant death syndrome, an unfortunate sudden death event occurring in one in 2,000 babies. The latest thinking is that an unforeseen brain stem abnormality keeps the baby from arousing when necessary to take in more oxygen. Other metabolic disorders MCAD deficiency and potentially long QT syndrome, a cardiac rhythm problem are also potential factors.
