Diet worthless: Dietary changes are worthless. When you start Allopurinol you must also start Colcrys 0.6 mg twice daily at the same time to prevent Allopurinol from precipitating new attacks. Once the serum uric acid is stabilized at a level less than 6 mg/dl the Colcrys can usually be tapered and discontinued without risk.

Gout: Allopurinol must not be started until the acute attack has subsided. If not this potentiates the attack. See your podiatrist or someone that understands gout.
