A member asked:

How beneficial are visits to a dementia patient, what should frequency be and any reason to limit visits to the "occasional"?

For most more better: This mostly depends on how much the dementia patient enjoys visits. Because most dementia patients have poor short term memory, they'll likely not remember your visits ; feel alone when no one is visiting, but when someone is there they usually enjoy the company. They tend to live in the moment, so the more moments you are there the more they will benefit. Please also take care of your own needs.

Visiting dementia Pt: I agree with dr. Baker. Many dementia patients enjoy visits from others, yet may not retain what happens from one visit to the next. I recall one woman with alzheimer's dementia, whose husband visited daily despite the severity of her cognitive decline. A nurse asked him, "why do you keep coming when she doesn't know who you are?" he replied, "because i know who she is." a very wise man.
