Dr. refuses to prescribe even a low dose of an atypical because of diabetes...if a low dose would help should i try and work with a different dr.?

Depends: Your doctor may feel that you do not need an antipsychotic treatment. You should try to avoid antipsychotics because they have serious side effects. However, there are some atypical antipsychotics that would not affect diabetes much.
