Root canals are not: The need for a root canal is the irreversable damaage to the rooth nerve. This results in an abscess. If the abcess is not addressed, the infection can definitely be harmful to the mitral valve. The root canal is one treatment option , replacement with an implant is another, but the infection must be addressed. See a dentist.

MVP: Patients with mitral valve prolapse may be more likely to have any infection in the body lodge on and effect the valve. While extremely unlikely, it is always better to be safe than sorry. That is why any infection should be treated asap. Having rct in itself is not a problem. The patient should receive antibiotic coverage as deemed appropriate ; the rct treatment successful or the tooth extracted.
