Keep up to date: Anyone who is frequently bitten, clawed, burned or punctured might be more likely to be exposed to tetanus. Make sure you carefully clean all wounds and keep your tetanus shot up to date: at least once every 10 years.

Lockjaw is...: Caused by the bacteria clostridium tetanii. If you are up-to-date on your dtap or tetanus boosters (usually recommended every 10 years, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. There is nothing specific about working with animals and tetanus.
