A member asked:

Is it possible for ceramic braces to result in palatal expansion to some extent?

Not usually : Palatal expansion usually requires strong forces that are available from 'screw key' expanders. Ceramic or metal braces usually cannot achieve this!

Great question!: Ceramic braces should not present any unusual results as opposed to other types of fixed braces. I guess some palatal expansion could occur if crowding is being resolved by expansion of the dental arch. Please ask your dentist to address your specific concerns.

No: Whether braces are metal, ceramic, or any other material doesn't matter. Braces can rearrange the relationship of teeth to the jaw bone, but cannot reshape the jaw bone. Palatal expansion requires an orthopedic appliance (braces are an orthodontic appliance), and in adults surgery is also required. See a qualified Orthodontic Specialist for explanation.
