Blood loss, sepsis: Severe blood loss or uncontrolled infection can kill even today. Also complications from high blood pressure, seizures, and blood clots can be fatal. Fortunately these days a maternal death is rare in developed countries, but will be much higher wherever a cesarean section cannot be easily and safely done.
