Interventions: Mental retardation is generally not treatable per se, but functioning can be improved with consistent interventional support with occupational and speech therapy. Depending on other conditions possibly present, physical therapy may also be helpful. A nutritionist may be able to assist with a diet plan that optimizes support for the neurologic system.

Mental retardation: Unfortunately, there is no treatment for mental retardation, but there are many ways to improve functioning. Depending on the cause and severity of MR, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and other programs can be extremely beneficial in improving functioning.
