Acidosis: Respiratory acidosis (a) is a condition in which decreased ventilation (h) (hypoventilation) causes increased blood carbon dioxide concentration and decreased ph. Metabolic a occurs when the body produces too much acid or when the kidneys are not removing enough acid from the body. If a person has shock with an increased Lactic Acid level which leads to h, both types of acidosis are present.
