Acidosis....: Respiratory acidosis occurs when there is a build up of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the blood because the respiratory system is not getting rid of the CO2. The kidneys will compensate by keeping bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) in the blood, thus lessening the degree of acidosis. A normal pH in the blood is 7.40 and anything less than 7.30 is worrisome! The pH, CO2 and O2 can be measured via blood gas analysis.
