Acidoses: A respiratory acidosis is caused by an increase in the pco2 level and is usually found in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (c). Its diagnosis is made by an arterial blood gas reading. A metabolic acidosis has a low level of co2 seen in the blood and is seen in patients with hypotension, loss of bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) or the presence of an acid in the blood, such as lactic acid.
