Multiple things: Paracentesis is done to remove fluid from the abdomen for a number of reasons, diagnostically or therapeutically. Diagnostic paracentesis usually removes only a small amount of fluid and is generally not associated with fluid deficit. Large volume paracentesis can be associated with hypotension (particularly orthostatic), tachycardia, diminished urine output. Keep IV patent, give Albumin as rx.
