A member asked:

Could you explain what is cardiomyopathy and what causes it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Complex: There are 3 types: hypertrophic (walls are too thick), dilated (enlarged chamber, weak muscle) and restrictive (abnormal relaxation and filling) - all can cause heart failure. There are too many causes to list here. The most common: unknown cause (idiopathic), hypertensive, ischemic, viral, inherited, alcohol induced, chemotherapy induced.
