A member asked:

What will a surgeon do for a thigh injury due to falling, platelets low and possible internal bleeding?

Dr. John Fung answered

Specializes in General Surgery

Likely supportive: Many factors are considered, including general health, age, associated injuries, degree of coagulation abnormalities. If the thigh injury is bruising in nature (i.e. No fracture), and the platelet count is low but sufficient, watchful waiting and support is likely. If there is fracture, or severe coagulopathy - blood transfusions, fixation may be necessary. Angiography may also be helpful.
