Throat issues: There may be a tissue mass, polyp, or diverticulum which can be an airway irritant causing cough. There may also be gastroesophageal reflux disease (gerd) which can cause coughing. In cases like this, it is best to have a complete upper airway exam to rule out polyps or other tissue conditions which may need to be addressed. If nothing is found, then it is sometimes best to have an upper GI test.
