Call your dentist: If you have not been instructed to start an antibiotic and swelling does occur you should take an antibiotic. When swelling is present it takes about 72 hours for the antibiotics to become effective. Call your dentist ASAP for evaluation and treatment.

See your dentist: Call your dentist to schedule an appointment to be seen ASAP. Did the dentist prescribe an antibiotic and you neglected to follow through? Swelling can be dangerous, see the dentist immediately, the area may need to be drained or the dentist may need to refer you to an endodontist or oral surgeon.
