Why didn't Dr advise: You need to give weight-based, children's tylenol (acetaminophen) or children's Ibuprofen to help reduce discomfort and fever. If not controlled / if concerns, take to pediatrician / urgent care.

Yes: Tonsillitis in young child is most often caused by viruses. Encourage him to take plenty fluid. Otc fever reducer such as Acetaminophen may be used.
