Lithium carbonate: Adverse effects aren't frequent below a serum level of 1.5 meq/l. Your doctor will be monitoring your dose and blood levels. Fine hand tremor, increased urination, and mild thirst may persist throughout treatment. Diarrhea, vomiting, drowsiness, muscular weakness, and lack of coordination may be early signs of lithium intoxication. Long-term, thyroid and kidney function may be affected.
