Undivided brain: Most of us have 2 halves in our brain, known as "hemispheres". Holoprosencephaly (HPE) is abnormal division of the embryo's brain and lack of separation of the cerebral hemispheres. HPI can be mild to severe and can cause defects in the development of the face and in brain structure and function.
