Cyclothymia is a variant of bipolar indicating rapidly cycling moods. Dysthymia is basically persistent depression. Bipolar disorderis characterized by manic and depressive episodes.

Different types: There are different types of therapists who deal with these diagnoses, usually dependent on severity of symptoms. Psychiatrists and clinical psychologists usually deal with patients with more severe symptomology, and counseling psychologists and social works deal with patients with less pathology. These are generalizations, however, please bear in mind.
