Safest = no meds!: The best and safest and most natural remedy would be to aspirate his nasal passages with a nasal aspirator after putting in a few drops of Normal Saline nose drops into each nostril. Decongestants are too risky, especially for an infant. I also recommend a humidifier or vaporizer, with or without Vicks (eucalyptus). And of course the best remedy: tincture of time!
