A member asked:

Should i be concerned if my husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer three weeks ago and they are removing the kidney on friday. does it grow that fast?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not in 3 weeks: No doubt the kidney cancer was present for many months or years before it was detected. The doubling time (time it takes for a kidney cancer to double in size) is usually 1-2 years or more. The reason not to wait long after diagnosis is to avoid the possibility that it may spread out of the kidney to other structures.
