Ankle procedures: This may be a type of procedure similar to arthroscopy where the ankle is filled with fluid under pressure to open areas where instruments inserted can scrape, cut and clean the surfaces of the joint or remove fibrous degenerated material to improve motion and relieve pain. Also used for fractures and bone loss with instability of the joint where rigid fixation is applied and distracted gradually.

Typically, it is a series of straps that are strategically placed around the ankle joint and does not involve drilling pins into the bone for distraction.
