Attack yes: Sudden onset of pain, swelling, redness and earth of a joint are signs of a gouty attack. The symptoms can last upwards of a 1-2 weeks then slowly subside. The same symptoms may represent an infection, so if you have them see a doctor . Gout is diagnosed by aspirating joint fluid and looking for gout crystals. High uric acid in your blood suggests you are having a gout attack.
