Agitation in autism: People with autism run understandable he easily frustrated due to their difficulty verbalizing their needs wants and desires. They also get frustrated due to misunderstanding social cues or missing the social cues altogether. The two current approved medications for agitation in autism are whispered all, and abilify (aripiprazole). These should be managed by a clinician with a good understanding of both medications and the condition itself. Sometimes an antidepressant can be helpful. If adhd symptoms are present, sometimes the adhd medications can be beneficial making sure that the person with autism gets good sleep is also helpful and melatonin works quite well for that in autism.Best wishes.
