How can you connect with a child who has autism?

It depends: Focus on what you know are the child's preferences, likes, and wants. Maybe its a toy, activity, or snack--have the child gain access to that item when they engage with you. This will pair your interaction with something they already like---something reinforcing. Some great reading are the book written by drs. Patricia krantz and lynn mcclannahan. They have great strategies.
