I see why the need for guide dogs to assist the blind, but why do some people in scooters have them?

Different handicap: People in scooters are handicapped with an inability to walk or move. Some are blind but most are not. Dogs can be used for orientation but also can be a warning, or a companion, and some are trained to retrieve objects for their owners. So they are multifunctional - isn't that terrific?
