Neither: Facial plastic surgeons are typically ENT (otolaryngologists) who may, or may not have completed special training in facial plastic surgery. Many are quite talented, however make sure they have completed an approved residency first. Facial plastic surgeons are not plastic surgeons.

Cosmetic surgery: Many people feel they can do cosmetic surgery, but physicians who are board certified by the american board of plastic surgery have trained in surgery and should be qualified to do it. Other doctors do cosmetic work with out the appropriate training or qualifications. Check out your doctor before getting anything done.

Facial plastic surg: usually refers to face and neck lifts and should be done by trained surgeon which means a plastic surgeon who is board certified! Some other surgeons may get fellowship in facial plastics so should be board certified in plastic surgery, hope that helps. Dermatologist are trained in facial cosmetic surgery which includes liposuction, fillers, toxins, lasers

It is a six year surgical specialty training that specializes in cosmetic & reconstructive treatment/ procedures for the head/neck & Face only. Like rhinoplasty, facelifts, blepharoplasty, et. We overlap with dermatology, but facial plastic surgeons are more surgically oriented. Plastic surgeons specialize in whole body & face treatments.
