A member asked:

Is facial plastic surgery with dermatology or plastic surgery ?

Neither: Facial plastic surgeons are typically ENT (otolaryngologists) who may, or may not have completed special training in facial plastic surgery. Many are quite talented, however make sure they have completed an approved residency first. Facial plastic surgeons are not plastic surgeons.

Cosmetic surgery: Many people feel they can do cosmetic surgery, but physicians who are board certified by the american board of plastic surgery have trained in surgery and should be qualified to do it. Other doctors do cosmetic work with out the appropriate training or qualifications. Check out your doctor before getting anything done.

Specialty: not ABMS: While this is a sub specialty of the board of otolaryngology, it is not a recognized specialty board as defined by the ABMS. PLEASE SEE LINK BELOW: http://www.abms.org/member-boards/specialty-subspecialty-certificates/ This lists the 24 recognized specialty boards including the AMERICAN BOARD OF PLASTIC SURGERY

Neither: A facial plastic surgeon is a board certified specialist. It is a six year surgical specialty training that specializes in cosmetic & reconstructive treatment/ procedures for the head/neck & Face only. Like rhinoplasty, facelifts, blepharoplasty, et. We overlap with dermatology, but facial plastic surgeons are more surgically oriented. Plastic surgeons specialize in whole body & face treatments.
