Rash: Hi. The most common adverse reaction to PTU (propylthiouracil) is a rash. Some of these people can be switched to methimazole and do fine. The serious side effect we worry about is neutropenia (low white blood cell type that fights bacterial infection). The problems go away with stopping the drug. You might want to proceed thy radioactive iodine therapy.
