A member asked:

What is the difference between ptu (propylthiouracil) and carbimazole? is it possible to switch medication?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Different: Carbimazole is converted to an anti=thyroid drug methimazole. Ptu (propylthiouracil) is a different anti-thyroid drug. Both are effective. Ptu (propylthiouracil) better, but not used as much since it can be associated with liver disease. Both have potential side effects. Talk w/your doctor.
