How to know if flashbacks real, or do you just remember and then see the whole or are there really things like flashbacks?

A flashback can be: Completely. Real, part hallucination, part reality or contain certain distortions, such as in a scenario of a rape that occurred but the mind showed the wrong perpetrator. I have watched people had flashbacks of trauma that occurred to them while under the influence of lsd when the trauma occurred. They could tell that it was a flashback of a hallucinated experience. It is all very complicated.
