Gum infection?: That is probably gum inflammation that led to periodontitis and pocketing that's why the gum is detached from the tooth, do you go to the dentist regularly? For check ups and cleaning? If not you need to.....

Normal..: After years of having a crown, probably there is some type of gingivitis around it. Inflammation due to accumulation of bacteria in the are is very common. Sometimes caries develops "under" the crown, causing gum recession and "lifting" of the same.
