Being 16 means: That you may be very moody. Often teens feels intensely sad. This does not always mean that they are suffering from depression. If you think you might be depressed, speak with your parents and consider talking to a therapist to see if it's just part of growing up or some depression.

Many things: Feeling depressed, sad or anxious, feeling hopeless or worthless, flat mood, physical slowness or agitation, reduced appetite and weight loss, reduced sleep especially early waking, loss of interest in sex, loss of energy or fatigue, memory issues, thoughts of harming yourself. Some may have increased appetite and weight gain or physical symptoms

Depression is..: You may be feeling uncontrollably sad, detached, more irritable, down on yourself, overeating/binging on junk food or not eating/no appetite, having thoughts of self-harm or in fact doing harmful things to yourself to ease the emotional pain like cutting, doing drugs, skipping school or work, not caring what happens to yourself, isolating from peers/family and thinking of ending it all.

See your doctor: Main indicators: a depressed mood, decreased participation in activities, low energy, agitation or slowed behavior. Also, rapid weight loss or weight gain, changes in sleep patterns, feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt, difficulties thinking, concentrating, or making decisions, or thoughts of death.
