Don't treat it: It is my perspective that if the case of tourette's is mild and doesn't cause any obvious social embarrassment then my option would simply be to not treat. The side effects of the medications used to treat it don't seem to warrant being used in mild cases. The risk of developing a tardiva dyskinesia it is always present and therefore the risk benefit ratio is very high. I have a number of patients with mild tourette's that I do not treat as well as a family member who has seen a number of different doctors who agree that treatment is not warranted and is contraindicated becausethe case is mild.
