Dark gums?: "dark" like in brown would probably mean normal pigmentation and this varies from individual to individual in the same manner as skin color. "dark" like in red\purple would probably indicate gum inflammation and periodontal problems. Localized spots might indicate something else. Have your own dentist take a look.

Dark gums: Brown pigmented gum tissues are normal in African American, Jews of Russian Zorigin, &people from Indian subcontinent, and have been that color since birth. Red/purple discoloration of recentorigin may indicate inflammation/infection. Please see your Dentist for examination.
