Www.epocrates.com: This website of drug drug interactions advises against the simultaneous use of atenolol and Clonidine for very particular reasons that your doctor should read up about. Don't change anything until you can contact him or her as long as you're tolerating them together.

Clonidine: Clonidine is useful for withdrawal. It has nothing to do with atenolol. Atenolol is for high blood pressure. So is Clonidine but that's not the reason he gave it to you. Each drug has multiple primary effects and you're taking two different drugs for two different indications. If you don't have high blood pressure, may be you don't need atenolol? You could ask him.

Clonidine: Yes, Clonidine can help with opiate withdrawal symptoms and with sleep. He's not giving it to you for your blood pressure, but you'll need to be mindful when you stand up from a laying down position. Please ask your doctor to explain further whenever you don't understand about a medicine being prescribed. Best wishes.
