What is vasomotor rhinitis?

Vasomotor rhinitis is usually caused by irritants: strong smells, smoke, dust, changes in temperature and humidity, hot or spicy food, among others.

Irritant induced : I agree with the answer above. It is not uncommon for patients with vasomotor rhinitis to compain of increased mucous and drainage when exposed to perfumes, strong scents, paint fumes, certain foods, and alcohols. Some also have seasonal allergic rhinitis and others do not. I find that the antihistamine nasal sprays- patanase or astelin- can be helpful in managing both and can be used as needed.
