I think it's from: Both the delays in social development + perseverative interest in anything that's preferred. The simplistic language of pre-school shows is delivered in high-pitched, emphatic, repetitive " snippets", great for delayed echolalia. Age-appropriate shows have confusing complex language ; social interactions. Game shows have sound effects, short verbal interchange, rolling credits ; catchy music.
