Allergy test in kids: The allergy skin test in children is done the same way that it is in adults and is slightly uncomfortable. Most pediatric allergists use disposable plastic devices applied to the skin to prick or puncture it. The skin is allowed to react for 15 to 30 minutes to detect a positive histamine response which looks like a small mosquito bite. It fades in about an hour. Usually there is no blood elicited.
