I would suggest that: You discuss your desire to leave with your current psychiatrist. You may be asked why you wish to leave. Sometimes the psychiatrist may make suggestions for another provider ; at other times you are on your own. I would encourage you not to leave a provider for reasons like therapy being painful. Please be aware that now a days most psychiatrists primarily do medication management.

Changing doctor: Your question can be understood in different ways. Are you asking how to change the way your psychiatrist behaves? Or do you mean ending treatment with one psychiatrist to move on to another? Either would begin with a frank discussion. If a psychiatrist behaves unprofessionally towards you, it may be best to transfer care to a new doctor. Your local psychiatric society can provide referrals.
