Abuse: If you know of a child being abused, call the Child Protection Agency, in your state, or law enforcement. It is anonymous. Professionally, there are agencies to volunteer in, to help former victims. There are also many professions that help these unfortunate children.

Time and money: Consider donating money or children's clothing to your local foster care agencies. They are always in need of resources for the abused kids they have to place. Ask same agency what toys the kids would like at Christmas. Or consider being an emergency foster parent. These are the ones where kids go in the middle of night after being taken out of inappropriate settings or from abusive parents.

Report it: The average person who suspects a child is being abused can most help by reporting the suspected behavior to the police or to local protective services, usually a branch of your Health Department. Physically intervening without assistance also puts YOU in danger, and increases the risk that the family will flee the area.
