A member asked:

When you get a a stomach virus, are the symptoms caused by an inflammatory response to the virus or feom the virus itself?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Interesting question: Many of the symptoms of viruses, be they GI viruses or respiratory viruses, are a direct result of the body's response (like inflammation) to the virus. The virus itself does little from a symptomatic point of view, though without it, your body would not be reacting to help kill it off.
