Perhaps safer?: If you really are worried about your rusk of suicide, you can try to be admitted to an inpatient service that might help you get thru the time it will take safely. I expect that simply advising you to be patient and careful for these weeks is asking too much - but - if i'm wrong, give it a try. See if you can find pleasant, non-intense activities w/ or w/out calming folk. Tell someone you trust.

Not quick: The treatments you've referenced can definitely help you, but it is not "quick." if you cannot keep yourself safe as an outpatient while working with psychiatrist and psychologist to feel better, you need inpatient treatment. If suicidal, call your doctor or go straight to an emergency room. Call 911 for help. You can also call suicide prevention lifeline @ 1-800-273-8255.

Thanks Dr. Pappas, but I think this young man is in the UK. Do you know the help line there? I guess their equivalent of 911 would work.

Thank you for your input Dr. Weixel. Unfortunately, I did not/do not see any geographic locale listed on this question. There are, however multiple Suicide Helplines in the UK: http://www.suicide.org/hotlines/international/united-kingdom-suicide-hotlines.html
