It can: Different types of thyroid cancer- papillary, follicular, medullary & anaplastic. Just like majority of cancers- stage IV cancer- is considered to be incurable- though treatable. People do die from thyroid cancer- especially with anaplastic cancer where disease specific mortality is 100%. Metastatic mtc also carries a poor prognosis. Prognosis of the papillary/follicular cancer are usually better.

Thyroid cancer: Thyroid cancer typically has the best prognosis of any cancer. Well differentiated thyroid malignancies treated with thyroidectomy and radioactive iodine are readily treatable and rarely fatal.

Not usually: Different types of thyroid cancer; papillary and follicular are most common-are not generally fatal, reasonably good to excellent prognosis. Medullary cancer can be very serious; prognosis is good if caught early. Anaplastic: relatively rare, can be aggressive, potentially very serious. Overall, for a bad disease (cancer), thyroid cancer is not nearly as bad as many others.
